We are a small family farm trying to provide fresh, healthy food for our family.  In order to keep our expenses down and to afford to keep our animals, it is very important that we keep our numbers at or below our target.  All of our animals need to contribute to their upkeep in some way.  When we assess our numbers, which we do constantly, we include the products that we get from our animals in our figures.  So milk, cheese, yogurt, and kids are all ways that our animals help to pay their way.  We work hard to assess our goats and make the best breeding choices we can.  As we are not interested in showing our goats, we use DHIA and Linear Appraisal programs through the ADGA as a way to help assess and ‘prove’ our goats.  DHIA gives us relevant data about our does milk, its components and amounts and is a useful tool when assessing a doe or making breeding plans.  Linear Appraisal is a means of assessing a goat at a particular moment in time.  A trained appraiser will basically take measurements and make an assessment of each goat based upon a specific scale of traits.  In order to learn as much as possible about our goats and to have the opportunity to compare and contrast our own opinions against that of a trained professional, at this time we like to keep all of our kids here until Linear Appraisal.  We think that our Linear Appraisal session teaches us the most about our goats if we get them all appraised rather than just those we want to keep for our own breeding program.  We also like to have the chance to assess our kids as they grow.  We plan to only offer goats for sale as breeding stock if they meet our quality standards and we prefer to take some time to make that assessment.  This year, 2012, we plan to offer kids and possibly adult milkers for sale starting around the first of July.  Please check back then for our updated sales page.  You can also like us on facebook               for farm updates and site upgrade announcements!  Just click the included link.  You can also CONTACT US if you would like us to email you when we upgrade our sales page!  Thank you.
